Privacy Policy — Mike Medland

1 What Spark is

Spark is a private, single-user assistant application. It is operated by Mike Medland, the owner of the Instagram account @aria_kingsley, and is used solely to manage that account. Spark is not offered to the public, has no other users, and does not collect data from anyone other than its own operator.

It runs locally on the operator's own personal computer. There is no Spark website, no hosted service, and no way for anyone else to sign up for or use it.

2 What Spark accesses

With the operator's authorisation, Spark uses Meta's Instagram API to read data from the operator's own Instagram professional account:

Account details: username, account type, follower count, following count and media count.
The operator's own posts: captions, timestamps, permalinks, media type, like counts and comment counts.
Comments left on the operator's posts: the comment text, the commenter's Instagram username, timestamps, and whether the operator has already replied.

Spark does not access direct messages, private information about other users, follower or following lists, or any account other than the operator's own.

3 How that data is used

To show the operator statistics about their own account, and how those change over time.
To draft suggested replies to comments left on the operator's posts. Every draft is reviewed and approved by the operator before anything is published — nothing is posted automatically.

The data is not used for advertising, profiling, resale, or any purpose beyond the operator's management of their own account.

4 Where the data is stored

All Instagram data retrieved by Spark is stored locally, in plain files on the operator's own computer. There is no Spark server, no hosted database and no cloud account. No data is transmitted to the developer of Spark, because Spark is not a hosted service.

5 Third parties

To generate suggested reply wording, Spark sends the relevant comment text and the caption of the post it appeared on to the Anthropic API, which returns proposed wording. This is the only circumstance in which Instagram-derived content leaves the operator's computer. Anthropic processes that text to produce a response; see Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

No Instagram data is shared with any other third party, and none is sold or disclosed for advertising purposes.

6 Retention and deletion

Data is retained locally only as long as the operator keeps it, and is deleted by removing the corresponding local files or uninstalling Spark. Account snapshots are kept for a rolling 90 days, and older entries are discarded automatically.

The operator can revoke Spark's access at any time from Instagram's settings, under Apps and Websites, which immediately ends all further data access.
